club awards

Each season Oldham Baseball Club honours players in four categories. Each of the awards is named after someone who has been influential in baseball in Oldham.

Most Valuable Player award is named after William Brown who founded the successful Oldham Greyhounds team in 1935 and was involved with John Moores in setting up the North of England Professional Baseball League.  It is voted on by the whole team.

Batting Champion award is named after Tommy Rees, a rugby league player, who played for Oldham Greyhounds during 1935-39.  This is awarded to the player with the best On Base Percentage plus Slugging (OPS).

Pitching Champion award is named after the Alabama born Greyhounds pitcher, Billy Riches.  Billy played in 1935 and 1936.  It is awarded to the pitcher with the best Strike Out per nine innings ratio (K/9).

Young Player of the Year award is named after Harry Anderton who played for Oldham Eagles in the 1950’s and was a key part in the setting up of the Oldham Baseball Club.  It is awarded by the Management Committee to the player aged 18 or under who has shown most promise.
